According to ICF, coaching is defined as partnering with clients in a thought-provoking and creative process that inspires them to maximize their personal and professional potential, which is especially important in today's uncertain and complex environments.
Founded in 1995, ICF Global (International Coaching Federation) aims to advance the art, science, and practice of professional coaching. ICF has assumed global leadership of the coaching profession. It sets standards for the coaching profession and serves coaches around the world by providing an independent credentialing system.
The International Coaching Federation (ICF) offers an independent credentialing program recognized worldwide. Since its inception, credentialing has been awarded to more than 50,000 coaches internationally.
There are three different ICF Credentials: Associate Certified Coach (ACC), Professional Certified Coach (PCC), and Master Certified Coach (MCC). Each credential level requires different levels of coaching education hours, coaching experience hours, and a mentor coaching process.
ICF establishes ethical standards among its members while developing the definition and philosophy of coaching. Coaches who are members of ICF commit to ethical coaching conduct as described in these standards.

The word Mentor originates from mythology. In Homer's Odyssey, King Ulysses of Ithaca appointed his trusted friend Mentor to guide and educate his son Telemachus before going to war. Mentoring is a developmental relationship where an experienced person shares knowledge, skills, and experience.
Literally, the word "coaching" means taking someone from one place to another. Coaching is a planned development relationship established between a coach and a client ("coachee") to reach the expected performance. It is a learning and development process that unlocks people's potential and focuses on achievable goals. Coaching is regarded as one of the best ways to raise the performance of an employee within an organization and help them gain the skills they need. Coaching covers the relationship between a professionally trained coach and a client who agrees to receive support to develop their career, improve their performance and achieve their goals. Coaching programs are provided so that employees within an organization can focus on the areas identified for development and gain greater mastery in carrying out the tasks required of them. Coaching does not involve advice or sharing experience. A mentor, on the other hand, is someone who, drawing on the path they have walked themselves, shares their experience of the road and the journey with a person who is about to walk it, provides training, acts as a role model and supports that person in creating their own path and methods. A mentor is also a trusted guide. The need for mentors who guide young people entering working life who have not yet defined their goals and ideals is growing every day. Key Differences: a. A mentor shares experience and shows different options for solutions, enabling decision-makers to take action for the company. Through research, the mentor identifies the company's gaps, uses measurable methods and handles a professional capacity-building process. b. The coach's main goals are to improve performance, create behavioral change, develop skills and enable change management. The mentor's main goals are to guide and support the mentee's personal and career development. c. In terms of the coach's focus, problems, vision, goal-oriented development and performance are on the client's agenda. The mentor's focus is career development and helping a new team understand and get to know the organizational culture, as well as career planning and knowledge transfer. d. The coach does not need to have expertise or knowledge of the subject. Using questioning and reflection, the coach supports the client in finding their own way. e. Mentoring uses advice, experience sharing, feedback, questioning and modeling. f. A coach must receive special training through an authorized institution and become a professional coach.
